Things like this happen all of the time, but this is especially sick and egregious. I know you don’t want to hear this, but it’s time to face facts and realize some version of this is going to happen to you. Ha! you say, they can’t take away my pension and health insurance, I don’t have either one. I’ll be a wage slave ’til I die. Well, not if they take away your job. Get it? Trying to describe the malevolence that is ruining our lives is really beyond words at this point. We all sit back and say, oh that’s terrible, but what can I do – even when it’s happening to us! Well, that’s not enough anymore. We have to organize and bring corporate power and its control of government to heel. Start meeting with people you know, educate yourselves and figure out how to connect with other people, form organizations to fight corporations on every front. They are still fighting a class war they have already essentially won. Now, their sights are set on totally privatizing education, insuring the insurance industry can continue to raise rates and maintain total impunity. They’re still funding anti-tax organizations, buying our “representatives,” stealing our pensions, and formulating false choices like, “fund education or city/state services, but not both.” Or they’re citing city deficits and taxing you over and over while reducing the taxes for themselves, never acknowledging the systemic corruption that led to all of these deficits in the first place. It’s a ploy. It’s a scam. It’s a robbery.
Well, that’s my rant for today. How people do not feel any sense of urgency at this point is almost beyond me – but it’s not. I know exactly why we find ourselves here as a country. Let me lay it on the line: We are not as good as we think we are. An example? We are pleased as punch to buy goods we know are made by slave labor. We need to prove we have at least some humanity left through action now. Simply thinking good thoughts or watching tv or typing away like an idiot at a computer ain’t gonna do it…We are just encouraging them. I’m talking to myself as well. I’m just as guilty as everyone else, obviously. Even though I spent many years trying to people in need and many years trying to be a good activist and educate people, I’m still talking to myself – and maybe half the country, because the other half of the country thinks they’re doing just fine, thank you very much. Well, about half of them won’t be doing as well in a few years. Ironically, gradually doing worse is not usually what spurns people on to positive collective action – and apparently experiencing the worst economic crash since the great depression did have much of an effect either, so not much hope there…The next economic crash? We’ll find out soon enough.
Ok, rant is over.
There is a monster under your bed. Are you going to pull the covers up over your head and quiver in fear or..?
– Peace out
